Saturday afternoon was sunny and warm at thirty degrees. I figured it was a good time for King and I to get out and go for a walk seeing as how we hadn't been on one in months and this warmer weather might be fleeting. I had forgotten that Centennial Lakes turns into a skating rink during the winter so instead of a quiet, desolate winter walk the whole area was teeming with happy people all out enjoying the sunny day. It made us happy too.
I've never been a winter sports person and although we used to go skating quite a bit when I was younger it wasn't something I really loved to do. Figure skates never seemed supportive enough and always felt wobbly to me, my ankles would hurt and either the laces were too loose or when pulled tighter made my feet go numb. So when King and I were walking around watching all the skaters it didn't bother me that I was wearing boots and walking instead. But for a quick moment I had an overwhelming urge to be little again, down at Armatage park and skating hand in hand with Ellie, Jady, Julie, Aisha and Brittney and playing crack the whip. There was something so exciting about being at the end of that line when you were going too fast and the force was too much that you'd loose your grip and go flying off the end, across the rink and into the snow, screaming with excitement and fright. That was a really fun game.
