Taco Pie

My mom and I made our famous taco pie recipe recently and I thought I'd share it with you, dear readers, so we can all enjoy it's glory. It's ridiculously good and even better, it's easy to make.

I know Doritos don't exactly fit in with my "natural foods" kick, but sometimes you just need to go with whats best for the meal. :) With this recipe you can easily edit the ingredients depending on how you like to make your tacos. You could add black olives, jalapenos, guacamole or salsa or make the recipe with ground turkey instead of beef. There's room for interpretation here. Either way it's going to be great.

Enjoy!

Ingredients:

1 and 1/2 pounds ground beef

1 packet taco seasoning (we used the fancy stuff from Penzey's Spices, but it didn't taste any better than the cheaper Lowry's brand)

1 small onion

3/4 of an 8oz. can tomato sauce

1 can Pillsbury crescent rolls

2 cups crushed Doritos

1 cup sour cream

1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

salt and pepper

lettuce and tomato to be served on the side

To Make:

1. Press crescent rolls into a pie plate.

Bake at 375 degrees until nearly all the way cooked (dough should be slightly browning)

2. Dice and cook onion in pan until translucent.

3. Add ground beef to onion and cook until meat is browned.

4. Add seasoning mix, tomato paste and some salt and pepper and simmer for five minutes.

5. Now you'll do some layering:

Sprinkle half of crushed Doritos onto the crescent rolls.

Spoon on meat.

Spread the sour cream over the meat.

Top with cheese.

Sprinkle the remaining Doritos on top.

6. Bake at 375 degrees for ten minutes until golden brown. You may want to cover with tin foil for half of the cooking time.

7. Serve with lettuce, tomatoes and the rest of your Dorito chips.
