"I cannot go to school today,"
Said little Peggy Ann McKay,
"I have the measles and the mumps,
A gash, a rash, and purple bumps.
My mouth is wet, my throat is dry,
I'm going blind in my right eye.
My tonsils are as big as rocks,
I've counted sixteen chicken pox
And there's one more--that's seventeen,
And don't you think my face looks green?
My leg is cut, my eyes are blue--
It might be instamatic flu.
I cough and sneeze and gasp and choke,
I'm sure that my left leg is broke--
My hip hurts when I move my chin,
My belly button's caving in,
My back is wrenched, my ankle's sprained,
My 'pendix pains each time it rains.
My nose is cold, my toes are numb,
I have a sliver in my thumb.
My neck is stiff, my voice is weak,
I hardly whisper when I speak.
My tongue is filling up my mouth,
I think my hair is falling out.
My elbow's bent, my spine ain't straight,
My temperature is one-o-eight.
My brain is shrunk, I cannot hear,
There is a hole inside my ear.
I have a hangnail, and my heart is--what?
What's that? What's that you say?
You say today is---Saturday?
G'bye, I'm going out to play!"
-Shel Silverstein
I really am sick today so I will be home quietly resting and reading and attempting to heal myself with my mind. :) For King this is good news because it means he'll get to spend his entire afternoon following the sun rays in our apartment.
This last weekend made it official... wedding season is upon us. At the end of the summer I will be in three weddings of three of my very favorite people (well, three of my favorite girl friends and their fabulous fiancees) and I couldn't be more happy or honored to be a part of these special days. I am also really pumped for all the wedding events that will be taking place between now and then. As I said, it all got underway last weekend. I had my first dress fitting for Leslie's wedding and Caroline's engagement party on Saturday and then on Sunday I had a photo shoot with Ross and Nina for their save the date's (they turned out really well so I'm pleased). All the events this weekend were a lot of fun and good foreshadowing for happy times to come.
Below is a picture from Caroline's engagement party... crazy to think I've been friends with these girls since 5th grade. :)

Beth - Caroline and I walked past this t-shirt last night in a store window and thought you'd appreciate it. We'll have a bike all ready for you to cruise the lakes when you get here this summer!

Oh man, we just got tickets to this event when it comes to Minnesota in July and I could not possibly be more excited.
Outstanding In The Field is a "restaurant without walls". A traveling culinary experience that goes from coast to coast setting up outdoor dinners in fields, on beaches, in gardens, on mountains and in caves, but always following their mission: to re-connect diners to the land and the origins of their food, and to honor the local farmers and food artisans who cultivate it.When I saw this posted on design*sponge recently I immediately got my friend Genevra and her husband Peter involved because their total foodies and love organically grown foods and fancy meals as much, if not more, than I do and would enjoy touring a Minnesota farm to learn more. It turns out they've been wanting to participate in this event for a couple years now, so it worked out perfectly that we'll all go together this summer.
So come July 31st you'll find us at Star Throwers Farm in Glencoe Minnesota eating fabulous food prepared by chefs from Minneapolis' The Craftsman and The Corner Table, drinking delicious wine and enjoying the scenery of a lovely Minnesota farm. I'm definitely going to need a new sundress. :)You can click here to see the full 2010 tour schedule. Tickets just went on sale so get yours today!
These are the ducks that are flying back from the south where they've been sunning themselves all winter and are now looking forward to a beautiful Minneapolis summer as much as I am. Also known as: a statue in the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum. Lovely photo mom.

The world is brighter today.
Things are coming together and this is going to be a really good weekend.
I hope it's good for you too.

I guess it was my own fault for proclaiming to the universe that I felt content last weekend. That can never last. This week I feel the opposite of content.

My mom and I are getting excited for The Minneapolis Art Institute's upcoming event, Art In Bloom. For the 27th year in a row the Institute will collaborate with more than 150 floral artists who create bouquets for the art pieces that inspire them. Can you imagine how good the museum is going to smell?!
Flowers, the Minneapolis Art Institute, spring time and hanging out with my mom, yep, this is definitely an event I can get on board with.
Last night I made this dish from Canadian House & Home for my family for dinner and we all decided that it's a new family favorite. I don't exactly know how I stumbled upon it online, but I'm glad I did. I'll definitely be making it again soon, especially since Jady has a cold and didn't get to actually taste it this first time around.
The only changes to the recipe I made were instead of using two cups of cream (which just felt excessive) I used one cup cream and one cup milk. And the other change was I added a few italian herbs to the sausage as it was cooking.
Delicious meal. The image above doesn't really show the true rose color of the sauce.
My annual piece-of-crap Target sunglasses purchase has been made. Meaning I spend $15 for a pair of sunglasses in the spring that by next year will most likely have been sat on, kicked, scratched in my purse or one of the lenses will have popped out. But still, I'm kinda pumped about 'em... I'll actually be bummed when I accidentally run them over or leave them at a restaurant.
Me: Good Morning!
Co-worker: Good Morning!
M: How was your weekend?
CW: Good, I went and saw the new Jennifer Aniston movie.
M: (thought: why?) Said: Oh cool, was it good?
CW: No.
M: Yeah, that's kinda what I thought you'd say.
This weekend my family went out to dinner together for the first time since Louis was born. It was a lot of fun and Lou did a great job at holding it together, though it helped that we went to a "family friendly" joint. I love him.
So car shopping actually went extremely well this weekend and by the end of the day on Saturday I drove home in my new car. Well, new to me, she has 32,000 miles on her, but as far as I'm concerned she's perfect. A beautiful black Jetta that I couldn't love more. So thank you for all the prayers and happy car thoughts.
I test drove a few cars before deciding on this one and Vince and I had conversations about what I was looking for and what I maybe should be willing to settle for and there was a point where I test drove a car that was a good price with good mileage and was reliable and got good gas mileage and the only problem was that I simply didn't want it. I told Vince that when I eventually drove off the lot with my new car I wanted to be behind the wheel of a car that I liked... hopefully that I loved. So we kept looking. And low a behold not a few hours later I had the exact car that I wanted at a fantastic price.
And when I got home later that night I thought to myself, "This is exactly why I don't settle." Because the right thing is always out there and you just have to wait for it. And I thought about all the perfect things in my life I didn't settle for. I thought about my apartment that I love and how I have the exact perfect dog that I was looking for and how much I love my job and how I'm driving a car that I really appreciate. And although all those things can seem incredibly superficial, really, they made me feel extremely grateful. I'd use the word "blessed" if my friend Kristina didn't hate it so much. Could things be better? Sure, but right now everything just feels so "good".
I lead a small life, but it's a very full life to me, and this weekend I just felt so content. I'm grateful for the reminder that I will never be a person to settle for less than what I want and that life will always provide.
When you put a Louis on top of all that goodness, it's enough to make your heart burst.
I love this beautiful flower with her arms outstretched to the sun. Merry Mary Monday everyone!
Ooh, I made a rhyme!
